I would be leery of purchasing a brew kit off of eBay.

I don't use LME, but be sure to ask the seller what's the expiration date on the can...have the hops been in the freezer or in the box...has the yeast been in the fridge...chances are niether...

Problem #2: Dry Ice cannot be shipped to Canada from the USA. Without it, your yeast may get cooked while in transit.

eBay is great for unique items. For food stuffs like homebrew ingredients, I would steer clear of those auctions and purchase direct from a LHBS or a reputable online dealer like..

www.austinhomebrew.com
www.northernbrewer.com
www.morebeer.com
www.williamsbrewing.com

You can't go wrong with these guys and you have some kind of recourse if a shipment goes bad, damage, mistakes, etc.

eBay and PayPal have a reputation of leaving you out to hang.

Thanks EdWort for the site.

By the way apple season is about to start here in Southern Canada (2 to3 weeks). I found a few growers that make apple juice. Can`t wait to start on some Apfelwein.

later

Where in southern Canada are you, bandit? There are quite a few of us Canucks on these boards so someone may be able to steer you towards a HBS in your area.

A number of us here have also used Alternative Beverage/Homebrew Adventures to buy equipment and supplies (http://www.homebrew.com). They ship to Canada USPS and have very low handling charges. I recommend them, as well as the other retailers Ed recommended.

Other than those American retailers, you are probably noticing that there aren't good places in Canada to turn to for extract-brewing. However, if you are near a Brew-on-Premises establishment, you might check them out and see if they will sell you the ingredients for extract kits. They are almost guaranteed to have fresh stock because they move a lot of product.

Blenheim, Ontario

If you know of any HBS in southern Ontario (Windsor, Chatham-kent, London....etc) let me know.
