Default Does anyone buy their DME in bulk?

Just curious if its common for people to do it. I see North Country Malt has 50pounds of Briess light malt extract for $98

If you are going to stick with extract brewing for awhile and it's cost effective, go for it. Provided it's stored properly it will last.

Gentlemen,

I used to pay $135. for 55 Lbs of 'Muntons' DME.
{7 Batches of 8 Lb Hammer, at .68 cents each}
It has gone up to $185! and the 'American' DME is up to $170.
LME, DME, {whole grain is cheaper but more work and more equipment.}
Its getting to where I can buy a Shiner for .15-.20 cents more than I can make it myself !

Help!

I have decided to become an 'Apfelwino'.

Thats it! I am 56 years old and have been brewing for '15...
this will be my 16th year',
{or was that the year before?}
and I always thought wine was made from grapes.
Wrong, it is made from grape juice.
I have overlooked this information for 56 years but saw old Ed Wort's,
{Hi Ed} recipe here the other day and I hear it even tastes good!
And it is easy.
On my November homebrew supply run I will throw in a couple of new 5 gallon carbouys, yeast and sugar.
Thanks Ed I think I am on to something here.
A whole new direction to take with my life.
I am finishing the new industrial sized housing for my poultry empire.
The 53 skinners and stabbers will be ready before X-mas.
The lawsuit is going along better than I ever hoped it could have gone.
I'll finish the poultry housing, knives from last year,
and by the time the weather cools and I would have been slaveing over a hot brew pot all night ...
well... I won't be.
I can cook up 15 gallons of this Apfelwein in 3 hours!
Spend more time in the knife shop,
or out in the woods with Sandymay.

Ohhh, I'm just an old Apfelwino baby...
I'm through slaving for my brew...
I can make a weeks supply in an hour...
Apfelwein is old,
but to me it is new...

Yee Ha

Probably the higher one-time cost...50 versus 150...

You need a very dry spot (i.e. not my leaky basement)...

I should also consider this, yet I am getting closer to AG all the time, so I'm leery of holding so much DME.
