Default Dextrose vs dry-malt vs liquid malt...

You think I would know this by now, but I'm not 100% sure, so here it goes...

1kg (6 cups) of dextrose = how much liquid malt extract, how much dry malt extract?

I always mix these 3 up from time to time, but I'd like a more accurate comparison to the 3 instead of guestimating the measurements.

Thanx.
Tony.

Hmmm goood question - why not just use a kg of dme - if you are making a kit I think it usually just calls for 1kg of sugar which can be substituted with DME. If you want a little extra alcohol use more extract it wont hurt nothing. Just dont go overboard

Personally I usually add about 3lbs of liquid malt extract and a little less then a pound of sugar to alot of kits and they turn out good.

Cheers

Generally speaking:

1KG dextrose == 1.2KG DME
1KG DME == 1.25KG LME

DME is 80% as fermentable as dextrose
LME is 75% as fermentable as DME

DME and corn sugar (dextrose) each average about 46 gravity points per lb per gallon.
LME averages around 36 ppg.

So 1 kg corn sugar = 1 kg DME = ~1.25 kg LME
