Default CO2 question

I am ready to transfer my IPA to my cornelius keg and since it's been a few years since i last brewed, i have forgotten how many pounds of co2 i should put on the keg in order to carbonize it properly.....i recall something like 30 pounds for 2 days and then back off to 5 pounds for pushing out of the keg...any response is appreciated...cheeers

I believe you're right about the 30 psi if you want to force carbonate quickly, though serving is usually closer to 10psi depending on serving tube length. Other people just keep the keg at serving pressure for a week or two before drinking and let the beer carbonate more slowly. it takes longer but there is no worrying about over carbonating. HTH

For the serving pressure, this should give you a good place to start.

Pressure = length * resistance of line + height from the center of keg to faucet * .5.

For resistance: 3/16 id is 2.7 1/4 id is 0.7

Third post down.

I use 30PSI for 36 hours if the keg is already chilled...48 hours if it is not.

Then drop it to 8-10 for serving depending on your line system.
