I am looking to brew the Brown and British Ale from "The Brewmaster's Bible" pg 115 and have a question on the stated OG. Fermentables are:
8 oz Gambrinus Honey Malt
4 oz Belgian Biscuit Malt
4 oz Belgian aromatic malt
8 oz Scottish 80L crystal malt
4 oz chocolate malt
6 LBS light DME
2 LBS english treacle
All grains steeped, before adding DME. Im assuming to add the treacle with the DME.
Recipe calls for an OG of 1.058, but brewers friend called for 1.054 without the treacle, which would bring it to 1.068 (I think).
My main concern is with the amount of treacle, and the accuracy of the recipe. I have become leery of The Brewmaster's Bible because my Bavarian wheat overshot the OG by 15 points.
What would you all think the OG would be? How much treacle would you add? I am hoping for a somewhat sweet brown ale with low carbonation.
You guys all rock! Love the site and look forward to your responses.
