1554 clone is very good here is a base recipe


6.5 lb Pale Malt Extract

1 lb Debittered Black Malt

.5 lb 30 L Crystal Malt

1 oz Styrian Goldings(60 minutes)

1 oz Styrian Goldings (15 minutes)

1 oz Styrian Goldings (0 minutes)

Yeast Safbrew T-58

Primary Dusseldorf Alt
Secondary Russian Imperial Stout
Bottle Conditioning Janet Brown, Russian Imperial Stout.
On Deck Ryed Up Kolsch

If you can't find debittered Black Malt, use Carafa III, or chocolate wheat.

Even though I didnt start this thread...thanks so much for the recipe!!! Definitely a fan of 1554. Recently bought an excellent Scottish black ale called "Old Engine Oil" by Harviestoun Brewery. The label is awesome...it says "Viscous, chocolately, roasty". It was all of the above, and more!!

1kg dextrose
1oz Hallertau hops (dry hop)
Top up to 23L
