Yeast from brewpub
I will be brewing a Wee-Heavy this weekend. I usually create my own starters, but wanted to jump start this high gravity brew. My local brewpub brewer is going to give me the slurry from one of his fermenters. If I bring in a quart mason jar, he said he will fill it up. My question is, how much (i.e. 1 quart) yeast slurry is too much in a 5 gallon batch?

It depends on the cell count in the slurry.
Check out the pitching rate calculator here http://www.mrmalty.com/ And, welcome to the forum |
1qt. of slurry... I'd say that'll get your fermentation started no problem.

Shoot! One quart of slurry will get you started like a rocket. A cup of slurry might be too much for a five gallon batch. You probably need to pitch somewhere between 1/2 cup and a cup for a high gravity, 5 gallon batch.
