AKA Chalk...

I'm brewing a stout tomorrow, and I want to Dublinize my water, which means adding a lot of calcium but not sulfate (which gypsum also adds).

I though I had some calcium carbonate, but I guess I don't. Any idea where one might find that, other than at a HBS. (The nearest HBS is an hour away.)

It's not a big deal: if I can't find any, I'll just do without.

Calcium carbonate can be purchased at "health food" stores. Plain, unflavored calcium antacids might work, it depends on what was used for binding. It is also sold as lime in garden stores, but I have my doubts about the purity.

You could try sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). There might be a slight taste difference but I doubt you'd notice in a stout. Don't use too much, and don't boil the water before you mash, or the carbonate will turn to carbon dioxide and disappear (CO2 and H2O from -CO3).
