Default Suggested style for my first AG?

Think I'm going to give AG brewing a whirl, but not sure if AG is best practiced on certain types of beer.

I tend to go the way of the IPA, but have been thinking of trying a stout just to change things up from my drinking perspective.

Question then becomes: for my first AG, is it best to stick with what I know (IPA) until I have the system down.... or are stouts easy enough..... or perhaps is a lighter beer the way to go until I get the whole AG thing figured out?

Thanks for any input.

I would suggest not doing an IPA on your first AG because the water chemistry is especially important to get the right bitterness. If it were me, I'd recommend an English bitter or mild, perhaps a brown.
