When I'm opening a new bag of grain, I can usually pick at one end of the stitching and the whole seam will unzip.

I just spent 15 minutes trying to open a bag of Maris Otter.
I finally got a knife and sawed through all the stitches.

Do the British use a different stitch, or is there some other trick to it?

What am I missing here?

Oh goodness, I have the same problem with bags of seed at work. Sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it takes FOREVER. It's the worst with tiny bags.

I'm interested to find out who has the secret!

I think the stitch is designed to unzip.
I just don't have the magic decoder ring.

Maybe it's trying to tell you to buy American grain!

I have those issues with inscrutable Thai Jasmine rice bags. There was an episode of Dirty Jobs where he was instructed on how to open the bags of Soy Beans. They don't show it close up enough for me to truly see the trick.

I am assuming it is the same thing as dog food bags or the bags corn/feed come in at work.

I have never figured it out, but my dad can always get them to unzip immediately

There is a guy who works with me who can do it with some regularity, I'll try and film him doing it, even though I don't think he knows what he's doing.
