Default Sparge arm help. Connect to lid?

I'm trying to build a sparge arm for my first attempt at AG. I have a 60qt Igloo Ice Cube.

1. Should I make a sparge arm that I have to open the lid and it rests on top or build one that is connected to the lid? Why?

2. Should I drill holes or cut slits or does it even make a difference?

3. CPVC or PVC?

1) I built one and just pop-riveted it to the lid to make it easy
2) I used holes and I imagine that slots would be ok as well.
3) I used CPVC because of the higher temps that CPVC is rated for (80 degrees C and above for low pressure systems) which is perfect for sparge water.

You can buy small plastic U shaped pipe hanger brackets. Very inexpensive way to attach to lid. Should be in among the CPVC or PVC fittings. I think holes are easier than slits. CPVC for sure.

However why not do your first as a Batch sparge? I did my first AG that way to make life simple and stuck with it. I have an unused sparge arm attached to the lid of my retired cooler.
