Default Recommend a Corona Grain Mill

Hi all,

I have a $46 amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket and amazon prime, so I could get it on Saturday in time to brew (if I choose).

I'm looking at this one but the reviews are mixed. Does anyone own one of these?

Here's an Amazon search of "prime eligible" grinders. Which would you recommend. Ideally trying to stack below $50.

Thanks ahead of time!

That's the corona mill that I started all grain brewing with. It does the job with a few modifications. Adding a drill is a big improvement, as your arm gets tired fast from hand cranking it. The grinder will also shred most of your husks.

I've since upgraded to a barley crusher which produced a much more consistent crunch. I still use the corona for wheat malt and raw wheat though.

Do you need to put it through a few times or is just one pass-through good enough?

I had the gap set pretty tight so one pass was good enough. And you can always adjust it on the fly which is nice.

Once you get your mill, there's a few good threads on here to make the modifications that will help.

That is the same mill I bought 3 yrs ago; still going strong. I tightened the gap until I was scared, then tightened some more. This is what it looks like after retrofitting. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/my-u...ml#post2968467
Grain tends to fly all over the place, I found the cardboard cover was necessary.
