Trying a 2.5 gallon imperial stout and looking for advice on this recipe.
Batch size: 2.5 gal
Boil volume: 3.2 gal
Bitterness (IBU): 60.7
Color (SRM): 37.4
Maris Otter Malt 7.000lb Grain 76.7%
Crystal 60L 0.750lb Grain 8.2%
Milk Sugar 0.500lb Sugar 5.5%
Carafoam 0.375lb Grain 4.1%
Roasted Barley 0.250lb Grain 2.7%
Chocolate Malt (US) 0.250lb Grain 2.7%
Kent Golding 1.50oz 5.1% AA Pellet @ 60 min, 44.6 IBU
Kent Golding 1.50oz 5.1% AA Pellet @ 10 min, 16.2 IBU
Irish Moss 1.0 unit(s), Fining 1/4 tsp @ 10 minutes
Irish Ale yeast 1.0 unit(s), Yeast Big ass starter
Mash @ 150 for 90 minutes
that looks pretty good. i like a little more hop flavor, so i might add some at 0min, but your tastes might be different. maybe a little more chocolate if you like the roastyness.
I love the hop selection. Seems like most recipes are for American versions, but I am a fan of a more traditional Brit version. I might only suggest two changes. You could add 50% to both the roasted barley and chocolate malt. Also, for fullness I would get rid of the lactose and get that from a grain such as Munich or Melanoidan instead.
