Recipe suggestions for first AG batch?

Hey folks,

Saturday I'm planning on taking my first steps into the world of AG and I'm sort of in a porter mood. I was wondering if any of you could recommend a good, easy beginner recipe. I was thinking about trying the http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f126/black-pearl-porter-ag-24243/ from the HBT recipe database, do you think it would hold up to the inevitable rookie mistakes?

Thanks again in advance, this forum is awesome! Everyone here has been really helpful.

Ironic.

The Black Pearl was my second AG.

Turned out great. It was also my first kegged batch so it had some sentimental value as well.

Well that pretty much settles it, I guess Black Pearl is the way to go. Thanks!

When I was getting ready to do my first AG, the owner of my LHBS told me a should make either a pale ale or a porter... Based on that idea, looks like you've chosen well!

I have not yet brewed a porter and that recipe looks very nice, I say go for it as I may as well. :)
