Default Is it possible???

So I had a weird brew day yesterday. I was testing out a LOT of new equipment including a new propane regulator. Needless to say my burners now sound like jet engines. However in my boil pot i had 11 gallons to start the boil, and when I finished i had 5? Is this Possible???

That's pretty hard to believe, I gotta imagine that your measurements were off somehow. How long of a boil?

I would think removing over 50% of the water would leave you with syrup.

It was 90 minutes, but It was getting pretty hot? The final product is pretty thick. Looks drinkable but pretty thick

Did you get a preboil and postboil reading? I think it would have at least doubled. Like 1.04-1.08. That boil must have been blazin.

Curious about that as well. I started with 7 gallons and was targeting 5.5 gallons after a 60 minute boil (converted keggle, 12" opening)). I ended up with 5 so know only about 4.8 gallons ended up in the fermentor. It was a beautiful day today at about 72. I turned down the burner so it was just at boiling.

What is the normal rate for boil off? Beersmith uses 25.1% an hour. Does that sound about standard for everyone?

I boil off about 1.3 gal/hr. I wouldn't use evaporation rate as a %.

I boil off about 1.5 gallons in a 15g keggle with a moderately strong boil. If I turn the burner to full output and get a crazy vigorous boil it's more like 2.2 gallons. Initial volume doesn't matter.
