Default overdid water volume

first all grain batch, used too much mash and sparge water and have too much volume

any reason boiling it off (before hops) is a bad idea?

tia,

Using more water and boiling down is one way of getting more efficiency out of your brew. Of course it's a system of diminishing returns, eventually you have so much water that you are spending more on propane than what you would spend to get a pound or two more grain. I generally boil for half an hour before my first hop addition.

Aside from it being a pain to boil it down, oversparging can extract not so desireable compounds from the grain bed.

Having a lot of water on hand for sparging is great, but why did you keep sparging after your pre-boil volume was reached in the kettle?
