Default Mash Tun Lauter Tun design

Ok, so I am looking into AG brewing and I have all the parts to make a Gott style mash tun lauter tun with a slotted copper manifold. The question I have is, would I be better off putting the slots up or down in the cooler? Thanks for any ideas or opinions!

In my opinion down. For two reasons, better syphoning (less dead space) and less chance of grain compacting and blocking the slots.

I would say that all the literature on AG I've read would agree with you here. Down is the way to go.

R U going to batch sparge?

I would go with steel braid instead. Fly sparge with Manifold.
