Local HB shop was out of Carapils so I picked up some maltodextrin powder. Anyone use the powder that can offer feedback? Do I mash the powder or add to the boil? Also are there any concerns with using the powder (off-flavors, over caramelisation etc)?

No worries. It is a very common ingredient. Just add it to the boil. I used it in my porter and was very happy with the result.

you can use it just like lactose, pretty much at any point in the brewing process, but without the swetness that lactose provides.
