Default Making Black Malt

I am interested in making my own black patent malt and was wondering if anyone could give me a little incite on the process. I read somewhere that the grains needed to be sprayed with water during the process. But I have also heard that the only difference between black malt and chocolate is that the black malt is roasted longer, and I have already made chocolate malt.

Thanks in advance.
Dan

I have made black malt. I just, basically, gradually increased the heat from around 225 to about 350-400 or so (until it started to smoke) and then let it go until I thought it was dark enough. It went from pale to pretty dark well before it was smoking so total time smoking was minimal.
