Major Buzzkill
So I'm sitting out on my back porch brewing, and my neighbor looks over the fence and asks me what I'm doing. I tell him I'm brewing beer, I give him a basic rundown of the process and whatnot. He smiles and nods and then asks:

"So...what does it taste like?"

"Hold on!", I say.

I go inside and pour him a glass of my last beer and bring it out for him. I explain it's basically an IPA, so it's strong on the hops, etc etc.

He takes a sip and says "So what is it that you put too much of in this??"

At that point, I'm crestfallen. I explain IPA's again. He smiles and nods. Then says:

"Well, I've got a Budweiser waiting for me inside. I'll just chug this."

Talk about getting depressed about your first all-grain.
I just bought this house, but I think I'm going to have to move...

On a good note, two of my buddies were over earlier and they loved it :)

oh man that sucks.....what a diss

is the guy cool or is he a dick?

maybe you can sway him with your prechious homebrew

Honestly though, if you are used to Bud and that's all you drink, and you have an IPA (maybe first ever) you are going to think something is very wrong.

Got to start him off with something a little less flavorful. :D

yeah tell me about it i took my friend who is sort of new to beer. i ttok him to tap new york the beer festival he liked a lot of the beer but he didnt go for the complex beers. well i told him it was a good exposure to differnet style and it will show him there is more out there then the watered down stuff... but hey i bet the IPA tasted great dont get down on yourself look at the bright side theres now more for you. what he donst know is that is going to be the freshest beer he will ever have

brewinfool 04-28-2007 09:43 PM

he probably couldn't taste the deliciousness of the bud after that...lucky him ;)

I'm not sure anymore :D

Yeah, all I ever see him drink is Bud, so this was probably a lot different than what he was used to. I'm sure my face must've been priceless when he said that though. I felt like someone had just insulted my child. Ah well, screw him, more for me!

Just set aside a "special" sixpack for your new favorite neighbor next time you brew! Hopefully it won't give him the runs, that would be awful!!

No big loss if you ask me.
Some people don't like beer with flavor I've found even in my own home.
If they like Bud or the like fine with me as was said just more good beer with real flavor and buz for me and those who do have taste.

Take care not to worry.:mug:

the first time anyone tried my hb (besides my gf) was this friends friend that came over...I offered him a beer (we had some BMC in the fridge that was left over from a party) he spotted my hb asked what it was....so I told him it was the first beer that I had made...dude thought it was pretty cool and had one

he said he liked it

then he drank a whole bottle of boones farm fuzzy navel

For most people who drink BMC type beer, I think that is what they define as beer. Anything else is just crap to them.
Actually took me a while to figure out that every beer has a different taste and that because they do, they are great in their own right.
When I started brewing I tried to replicate the Labatts and Molsons beers that I was accustomed to. After reading up on the different beer styles and their perceived flavors, I quickly realized to judge a beer by taste, not by what I thought it should be.
