Don't need to use the braid, you could add a 90* elbow for a pickup as well. I went with the braid so I don't have to whirlpool before going into the fermenter.

So the braid is used to filter out so hops do not make it in to your fermenter?

Kinda surprised the braid works for ya. I built one for my kettle but it clogs up tight with break material in seconds and the flow drops to a trickle. I've been kinda wondering if one of those mash / boil screens would work better.

I still use the Lil' Sparky style hop strainer for the hops, the braid is just to keep hot break out of the fermenter.

Would this setup be able to handle a 10 gallon batch?

With a 15 or 20 gallon pot, yes. I have a 15 gallon pot but am undecided on converting it over. I may just go ahead and buy the Blichmann 20 instead.

Dunno. Obsession with efficiency seems silly to me when this setup proves you can sacrifice $1 worth of grain to simplify the process and shorten the brew day by over an hour. I mean, I will still sparge for big beers, but just to get some beer in the fermenter this setup is rockin...

Why is it necessary to adjust the hop schedule? Do you not boil for a full hour?
