Default Grain-how old is bad???

Someone locally is selling some MO malt in bags at about half the normal price.
He says it is 16 months old. Do you think it is worth buying? I have no idea how it has been stored or at what point age seriously compromises conversion.
Anybody have any advice out there?????

Trust your tongue, if you have an opportunity to sample the grain. If it tastes musty or otherwise lifeless, pass. Do you have any idea how it has been stored? Under good storage conditions (dry and cool), 16 months is probably well usable.
