Default Grain crush difference from eHBS...

...or why im adding a grain mill to my Christmas list.

Picture says it all. Left is MoreBeer, right is Northern Brewer:

I had the grain on the left as leftovers from my last batch. I had been using MoreBeer for about 6 months and just before I started all-grain brewing. I was shocked at how the crush was so much finer on the Northern Brewer grain.

10min into the mash right now. Will be interested to see if my efficency goes up (have been steadily getting in the mid-60s for all-in efficiency).

Numbers are in, efficiency was 71%! Not bad for BIAB (especially when your using one hand to hold the grain bag and the other to bail sparge water!)

71% isn't bad. It's about what I get for my cheap 2.5 gallon BIAB setup right now. What were you hitting before?

60-65%. Considering my "Setup" consist of a 5-gal pot and a second pot for heating sparge water, I thought I was doing ok. Im pretty happy with 71%.

What kind of grain mill do you have on your wish list? I BIAB and use a grain mill like this one. (http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Quality-Grinder-Wheat-Grains/dp/B000U5NZ4I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1354395285&sr=8-2&keywords=grain+mill) With it set as fine as possible, I get about 80% with no sparge and about 85% with sparging.
