I am making an oatmeal stout. About 45 minutes into the mash I noticed I forgot to add the flaked oats. I added them and some more water to bring the mash temp back up. How long do I need to let it sit now?
If you add them now, wait at least 20 mins for conversion. I'd leave them out myself. You can use them in your next recipe. Flaked oats add a nice creamy mouthfeel to a lot of different kinds of beer.
I already added them. They have been in there for about 40 minutes now so I'll go ahead and start sparging. Thanks for the quick response.
Will there be any problems from mashing for 90 minutes instead of 30?
Nah, you'll have a very converted mash. A lot of AG brewers mash for 90 mins every time.
