Default First all grain batch! Dark Ale

Here is the recipe for my first all-grain batch. It's in it's second week of primary right now, and I'll leave it in there for another 6 days or so before bottling.

Whaddya think?

Dark Ale (Imperial Oatmeal ESB Cascadian Dark.....sumthin)

Recipe imperial dark ale
5.00 gal Batch
All Grain


Recipe Gravity 1.078 OG Estimated FG 1.020 FG
Recipe Bitterness 57 IBU Alcohol by Volume 7.6%
Recipe Color 37° SRM Alcohol by Weight 5.9%

Quantity Grain Type Use
1.00 lb Crystal 120L Grain Steeped
2.00 lb Crystal 30L Grain Mashed
1.00 lb Flaked oats Adjunct Steeped
10.00 lb Maris Otter Malt Grain Mashed
1.00 lb Debittered Black Malt Grain Steeped
1.50 lb dextrose beginning of boil
Quantity Hop Type Time
1.00 oz Nugget Pellet 60 minutes
0.50 oz Cascade Pellet 30 minutes
0.50 oz Cascade Pellet 15 minutes
0.50 oz Cascade Pellet 5 minutes
0.61 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet dry hopped

Quantity Misc Notes
London ESB Ale yeast Yeast 750 ml starter, room temp


Recipe Notes

strike water= 178ºf
Mash 1hour at 157ºf 3.5 gallons
Sparge 3 gallons @ 175ºf
boil 1 hour

Batch Notes

actual starting gravity-1.078

10 grams FF 10.2%aa dry hopped after 9 days in primary

wait until you have several hydrometer readings of a stable gravity before bottling. I would take one reading then wait three days, then take another, then wait three more days and take another reading. Only then will you know when your beer is stable.
