Sounds like you are very familiar with the setup process of all grain fly sparging and pump usage - more so that I, I think. Anyway, since you haven't received a reply yet, here goes....
You could hook your pump to your autosparge and do away with the need to elevate your HLT if you want. If you have a pump, and it's not being used during that part of the brew process, and you find a benefit to having the HLT at a lower elevation then I say - Why not? It makes sense to me.
I do not believe you need to add a ball valve to the autosparge inlet. You should (at the very least) have a ball valve on the outlet of your pump manifold in order to throttle the pumping speed of the liquid. This same valve should be all you need to throttle the sparge water throughput.Hopefully if I'm dead wrong then someone will chime in
