Did anyone finally get to sample this recipe or at least an outcome?
I am trying to create my own Ranger IPA hybrid but the sugar i thought was a weird addition. So I'm just wondering to you guys who kegged it already, how it came out?

I made this recipe as per the BYO recipe. As long as you are fermenting on the cool side (fermented @ 64*), the sugar does not leave any off taste; it just finishes a little dryer. I added 3lbs sugar for an 11 gallon batch. I tasted Ranger and my clone side by side, and they were very close. Same color, same malt flavor, the Ranger seemed hoppier though. The recipe I used:

Amount Item Type % or IBU
19.00 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 84.82 %
0.40 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM) Grain 1.79 %
1.00 oz Galena [13.80 %] (60 min) Hops 20.8 IBU
1.00 oz Chinook [11.00 %] (60 min) Hops 16.6 IBU
3.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
1.50 oz Simcoe [12.20 %] (30 min) Hops 21.2 IBU
1.50 oz Cascade [6.90 %] (15 min) Hops 7.7 IBU
1.50 oz Cascade [6.90 %] (0 min) Hops -
1.00 items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 min) Misc
11.00 gm Calcium Chloride (Boil 60.0 min) Misc
11.00 gm Calcium Chloride (Mash 60.0 min) Misc
3.00 lb Cane (Beet) Sugar (0.0 SRM) Sugar 13.39 %
1 Pkgs Denny's Favorite 50 (Wyeast Labs #1450) [SYeast-Ale
1 Pkgs SafAle American Ale (DCL Yeast #US-05) Yeast-Ale

I actually re-brewed this; it is still in the fermentor though. The new recipe:

Amount Item Type % or IBU
20.00 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 86.02 %
0.75 lb Victory Malt (25.0 SRM) Grain 3.23 %
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM) Grain 2.15 %
1.00 oz Nugget [13.00 %] (60 min) Hops 19.7 IBU
1.00 oz Nugget [14.30 %] (60 min) Hops 21.6 IBU
2.00 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
1.00 oz Simcoe [12.20 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
1.50 oz Simcoe [12.20 %] (20 min) Hops 16.8 IBU
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [9.30 %] (15 min) Hops 3.5 IBU
0.50 oz Cascade [6.90 %] (10 min) Hops 1.9 IBU
0.50 oz Cascade [6.90 %] (5 min) Hops 1.0 IBU
1.50 oz Cascade [6.90 %] (0 min) Hops -
1.00 items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 10.0 min) Misc
1.00 tsp Yeast Nutrient (Boil 10.0 min) Misc
11.00 gm Calcium Chloride (Mash 60.0 min) Misc
11.00 gm Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate) (Boil 60.0 min) Misc
2.00 lb Cane (Beet) Sugar (0.0 SRM) Sugar 8.60 %
1 Pkgs SafAle English Ale (DCL Yeast #S-04) Yeast-Ale
1 Pkgs Safale -05 (Fermentis #S-05) Yeast-Ale

It's been a while, but I do remember this beer being pretty good, maybe a little thin.... From what I can remember I used 1 lbs of sugar and upped the 2 row to compensate. I used us05 and fermented in the high 60's. Turned out fine.

Bump...

Has anyone redone this Clone? I am a fan of the Ranger and am thinking of giving it a go.

One comment I would have is that I think the there is more hop needed late in the boil for aroma, very late, maybe at flame out, the aroma on the Rangers I have had, and currently have in my hand are very nice.

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers
