Noob here. Just transferred my first batch, an amber ale, to bottling bucket after 3 weeks in primary. Tastes pretty good and FG is where it should be. Smooth sailing so far until........
Priming sugar packet from local brew store said to dissolve 5oz into 2 cups. I did that and then siphoned beer onto it. Then I remembered my batch was only 4 gallons instead of 5.
Does this mean I'll be over-carbonated? Anything to worry about or fix?

Thanks for any help.

It will most likely be over carbonated. It might not be that big of a deal but it i would store them in a place that if they explode it wont make a huge mess. I use a big rubbermade container with a lid just in case but have never had a problem.

Thanks, I put them in coolers just in case.

For the over carbed issue....I read somewhere about a fix involving uncapping them after a week or so and immediately recapping. I'm using ez swing caps so easy enough to do but does it really work? Would they be able carb up again without adding anything?

If there is too much co2, then things will even out after recapping. If it's only slightly too much co2 then I'd just leave it alone personally.
