Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

We get lots of questions on what will fit in a chest freezer for kegs, so I thought I would post some pics of various chest freezers with my corny template in the bottom. It's pretty easy to make. Put your corny keg on a piece of cardboard, trace around it, cut it out, then use that to make as many as you need.

Also, a few members have sent me pics of their freezers, so I am opening this thread up for members to post pictures of their freezer full of corny kegs. Please include the make and model number. Pictures only please, and only after searching to make sure a picture of your model is not already posted. I will be cleaning this thread regularly to delete any posts that do not contain a picture of a freezer with corny kegs.

Ok, here we go. Smallest to Largest.

GE 5.0 cu. ft. at Sam's Club for $151.73

I put some templates on the compressor hump because if you built a big enough collar, you could accommodate more kegs.

Holiday 5.0 cu. ft. at Lowe's for $188

ColoradoXJ13 has this Holiday Chest freezer and has 3 kegs and a 5# CO2 bottle in it.

Magic Chef 5.5 cu. ft. at Home Depot for $199

Holiday 6.8 cu. ft. at Lowes for $218

Mustangfreak reports in that he can fit 4 kegs in this 6.8 cu. ft. freezer plus a 12 pack of Newcastle. Here's his pic.

It seems that my cardboard circles may be off by a fraction of an inch which can make the difference of a keg. I will be checking each one against a corny keg to verify and trim where needed to prevent missing.

Hopefully this is still helpful from a visual standpoint. I'll update the pics soon.

This is it so far, but I will add more as I get around to some appliance stores in the next couple of weeks. I'm leaving this thread closed and making it a sticky for reference information as it grows to be a pictorial database for chest freezers.

I haven't started kegging yet, but I have a "dorm fridge" that I was thinking about converting into a kegerator, so I was wondering what the diameter of your circles are considering I don't have corny kegs yet? That way I can get an idea on whether or not I want to convert the fridge

If people start posting their own setups, I think it would be a good idea to add a model number and the yearly energy usage. I found an Excel File that on the final spreadsheet has a list of freezers and refridgerators between 1979 and 1992.

I have an Armana C15B that I got off of craigslist for free. As you can see it fits 8 corny's easily without a collar. With one, it should hold 2 more... Along the lines of energy usage, this pulls 846kwh a year. I know this isnt too good, but the starting price was right.

Mine resembles the GE 14.8 CF setup.

Hey Ed I have the 7cu ft GE(sams club). I can fit 4. I'll supply a pix if needed. It is really tight. You have to remove the wire cage on the right. It pulls up easily. Might be able to get a 5th if you go w/ a 8" collar but I didn't try. 4 was enough for me. Charlie

I know the holiday chest freezer is already posted but I figured pictures with kegs would say more.

Holiday 5.0cf Chest Freezer from Lowes $188.00 as of the time of this writing

3 Kegs fit no problems with the 5Lbs CO2 tank, if tall enough collar was built it could fit 4 with the CO2 tank outside the freezer. Still have room to put bottles on the hump and around the kegs.

I also have the 5.0 cu. ft. from Lowes. Here's a pictures with 3 kegs, 5# CO2, and bottles down below.

(I know it's a duplicate, just wanted a pic of this model with 3 kegs in it, nothing against jcdillin's pic, which shows the hump quite nicely, as well as another option for configuration!)

I have the opportunity to pick up a used one of these and am wondering what you think. You say you can fit 4 corny kegs in there, but it's tight. I may do some fermenting in mine as well for lagers. Could you fit 3 cornys and a carboy? There is not really enough room for 2 temperatures it seems.
