Default Set it and Forget it question

If I am force carbonating a keg at 12 psi using the set it and forget it method do I need to leave the gas on and hooked up after the keg is carbed? Then let it sit for a week. Or should the gas remain hooked up on on?

The gas should remain turned on the whole time.
