Thanks for the answer! I guess now I search for a fridge for the garage!
Do allot of people that keg bottle any of their beer? How Long will it stay "fresh" going from keg to bottles? Thanks Sean |
I bottle from keg/tap when I'm taking some of my beer with me to someplace else. Usually it's gone by the end of the weekend, or within a few days. I've had far better luck with swing top bottles than with long necks (capping with a bench capper).
I've used a couple of different methods/hardware items, to bottle from tap/keg. The one I like the best is the Blichmann Beer Gun. The Bowie bottler setup works ok, but it's not as easy to use IMO/IME. If I was to do it over again, I'd probably just get the Blichmann Beer Gun and be done with it. BTW, I picked up a new fridge to use with kegs, in the kitchen (it's a 10 cubic foot Whirlpool, freezer on top model) last year. I'm moving this month and will soon be looking to get a chest freezer to setup in the basement so that I can also have beer on tap in the finished room down there. The first beer fridge is going into the kitchen in the new house (has a spot for it already). |
it's a pain but you can do it. If you freeze the bottles first - then fill very gently and cap quickly it's possible.
Obviously it's better to start with cold kegs - then it's easy. |
If you can't serve from the keg, there's little point in putting your beer in there, in my opinion.
Bottling some off of a keg to take to a party is one thing. "Packaging" your beer twice seems like a pain to me ;) That said, I bottled a Black Lager from a keg and it kept for over a year. Good beer |
