Remembering Beer/Gas posts on Cornies
|
|
After reconditioning all my cornies, I found that I had to keep looking at an assembled one to remember which post was beer and which was gas. I came up with a simple way. Look at the top of the keg like it's a face and the two posts are eyes. Think "beer goggles"... the left is B and the right is G. Or just think alphabetic order. Beer comes before Gas. Kinda corny, yes pun intended, but it works.

Yeah, I got that figured on the disconnects but I mean when you take the posts and dip tubes out of pin lock cornies, you have no reference to know which post goes where.

Most of my kegs have IN stamped into the rubber boot. I was going to highlight it with some paint.
Always looking for a better way, though.

This doesn't help with the assembly, but I use red o-rings on the gas post, black on the fluid. A real help in low-light conditions, where "red is gray".

My kegs (Firestone/Spartenburg Challenger VI) have notches around the base of the gas-in posts so it's easy to tell them apart. I thought Cornelius keg posts did as well.

They do. All my kegs are from Cornelius and they either had 7/8" 12 point gas in posts or 11/16" 6 point gas in posts, both with notches machined into the flats. The liquid out posts are all 6 point, but some are 7/8" and the others are 11/16", both of which have smooth sides.

i believe the notches aren't on the flats, but on the corners for ball lock kegs.

Heh, right on. So anyways, my OP was actually talking about how to know which port to stick the correct posts on (and the associated dip tubes). Once you get the right post on the right hole, then there's the issue of which disconnect goes to which post. Ok, so on pinlocks like mine, it's a no brainer. You can't mix them up. That is assuming you put the correct disconnect/coupler on your beerline/regulator. That's where the Black/Beer and Gray/Gas comes in. I still like my beer goggles technique for identifying the in/outs on a bare assed keg. Nuff said.
Just as a general disclaimer, none of my thoughts or posts are my own. Someone always beats ya to it. J/K Johnsma.
