Default Questions on swapping CO2 tanks and hydrotesting

Need to get my CO2 tank refilled, and the hydrotesting on my existing tank is past the five year mark. I located a local refiller, and asked my wife to handle for me, and she freaked out because they wanted to charge for the hydrotesting, and then give us a different tank.

In trying to reason with my wife, she's raised a valid concern. If we have to pay for the tank to be tested, and then they're going to give us a different tank, we would then be receiving a tank with less than five years rest until the next testing is due.

I pointed out that we should be able to swap the tank on a frequent enough basis that we shouldn't run into this issue very often. the only reason it happened this time is that I haven't been brewing in a couple years, so the tanks been sitting dormant.

Anyone got any thoughts here?

if you are swapping tanks with the same outfit you will NEVER have to worry about hydro testing. because the tanks they give you are already tested. now if this is your own personal tank like you have now and want to get it filled and not swapped then you need to pay for testing.

but if you are swapping tanks you shouldn't have to pay for the testing as long as the tank you turn in isn't expired and even if it is and you got it from the refill place they shouldn't pass that cost onto you.

I had a 5lb tank I got new, I had it filled because I didn't want an old beat up tank. well when that 5lb ran out sooner than later I figured I'd better upgrade to a 20lb tank. I gave them my new shinny 5lb tanks and $60 and in return I got a full 20lb tank. I think its a pretty good deal for me considering it cost more than $60 for a empty 20lb tank.

This is a swap tank from a different state, not from this vendor.

since you let your tank sit for a couple years then i think you have to pay for it. is this your personal tank? or is it one you got from a swap?

If you swap it, just make sure that the "new" one you get has at least a year or two before expiration.
