Default Primed keg question!

So last weekend i primed an ipa and am letting it carb at room temp in my basement, i just kicked a keg because of a party. Can i just toss my keg into my kegerator and essentially cold crash the yeast and then toss co2 on to finish up any carbing?

that will work unless you added sugar. You do want the yeast to use up the additional sugar or you will end up with a sweeter beer.

I did use sugar, i had almost 5 gal and tossed in 3oz of priming sugar. Its been almost a week so wouldnt residual sweetness, for the most part, have gotten used by the yeast?

Hook up your co2 and serving line and taste it. If it's not too sweet then go for it. I'd probably wait another week at this point though to be sure.

Actualy just tried it and to my suprise it pumped right out, full head. Didnt even attach the co2, it must be from the heat, and this ipa tastes great! Its a good thing i checked it, seems like it needs to calm down a little, must be from adding co2 to purge the oxygen out.

3 oz of sugar for 5 gals in a keg (for an IPA) will generate plenty of co2 and definitely enough (maybe too much) to pump out that test glass.

The good news with a keg is you can just adjust by venting some of the co2. I would recommend first chilling the beer first and then recheck the carbonation level. (Chilling the beer will result in more of the co2 being absorbed instead of head pressure pushing the beer out and resulting in foam.)
