Default paintball regulators?

I have a lot of old paintball equipment. Would there be any harm in using a paintball tank and paintball regulators to tap a keg? Is there anything special about gas regulators for beer?

I do it works great. Takes up much less space in the fridge.

Any pictures of your setup?
I heard you can't dial a paintball regulator down enough to properly carbonate beer. I was think about a small one for aerating.

Go for it. Some of the budget kegging kits come with 20oz paintball tanks and paintball regulators. You won't be able to carb and serve very many kegs, but it takes up less space and is quite portable.

They dial down just fine. My LHBS sells them specifically for kegging. You can carb and dispense about three kegs on a full 20 oz bottle. I just keep a spare aound in case I run out. The best thing is the bottles only cost about $30 to buy and $4 to fill.

You can't aerate with CO2 BTW.

The regulator that comes from a paintball gun won't work. If I remember correctly from before I quit, my low pressure DM and ego couldn't go below 80psi.

The problem with hooking up traditional regulators to paintball tanks is paintball tanks have a small pin that needs to be depressed before it let's gas out. Typical co2 regulators don't depress the pin. They sell an adapter or you can probably rig something up using an on/off ASA off the gun.

I don't think normal main regulators will dial down low enough, but I would have to check. I have several Palmer Stabilizer regulators (beautiful, wonderful regulators BTW) and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they dial all the way down; it's just a coil spring on the end that an allen screw hits against.

But even if they don't, I have a Micro Rock low-pressure regulator (used for driving the pneumatics on autocockers and stuff) and those will go way down. Not much volume, but I seriously doubt you need much flow to serve a glass of beer.

Here's the regulator I use. It has a screw-in plunger that depresses the pin.
