Opened early

So... I opened a bottle early. The beer tastes alright but is completely flat! So, is it because I opened it only after 5 days because I am pretty sure I put enough sugar in the batch before bottling. Should I toss this batch or wait it out? Is this normal??

Yeah toss it. Brew a new one, that **** is doomed.

Well, there are still a lot more bottles that I could let sit for a week

poppalarge 09-29-2012 08:04 AM

Just wait it out, give it another taste in a week or so

Dude!! Wait it out. Bottle conditioning takes a least 1 week usually 3 weeks. Very unlikely it would be carbonated after 5 days!!!! 3 weeks at 70c is normal!!! Don't even think about tossing it!

So is that the reason it was flat?

Probably. Typical bottle conditioning time is 2-3 weeks at ~70 degrees.

When I bottle my beer, I don't even THINK of touching it for 3 weeks. And they get even better after 4-6 weeks. Certainly not carbed at 1 week. Be Patient!

Why so impatient? It kills me when I see people say they opened a bottle after just a week, one even posted in another thread and said they opened one after two days. You have to develop patience. I personally don't open until three weeks, but even then, they may be carbed but not completely "ready" until later. As others have said, don't toss it, just be patient.
