Just noticed the used tank and regulator I bought with my kegging supplies has markings for use with O2 instead of CO2. Is it safe to ssume that I can still use this tank and regulator provided that all of the gas inside has been purged? I can think of any problems but I justa want to be sure.

If you can find someone to fill it, sure, but that won't be easy. They use different fittings. It is possible to convert a tank from O2 to CO2, the tank I'm using now was converted, so it's possible that's what you've got. I'm also using an O2 regulator with a CO2 fitting. Works fine.

What a potential nightmare. . . it really shouldn't be done but I supposed as Scimmia proves it can be done.

If you do convert make sure to clearly mark the tank as CO2. Better yet see if your gas supplier can exchange it for the right kind of tank.
