leaking corny keg
|
|
I went out to my kegerator yesterday, and there was a puddle in the front. I figured out that my corny keg of cider is leaking where I hook up my "line out." The keg was not hooked up, but was pressurized. I left out all the co2, and it stopped leaking, obviously. It's leaking right out of the hole on the top of the connector where the beer/cider would flow into the line to the faucet....is that "connector" something I can replace? Or is the keg toast?
Question 2, what to do with the cider in the keg? Should I bottle it? If I did, should I add sugar to carbonate or are the yeasties dead? There's probably 3.5 gallons left. I don't want to toss it. I guess flat cider is better thatn tossing it.

Sounds like it's the poppet valve. I need to replace mine too.

You can just get a wrench, unscrew the post, and pop out the poppet.

You can probably push it down with your finger and then when it reseats it will not leak any more. Almost all my gas poppets are like that.

quite a few of my gas poppets leak as well. I've also accidentally bent a few beer out poppets in the past (bent the little feet on them). However, if you put the QD on and hook it up to the faucet you'll alleviate the leak for now.

Yea sometimes they just don't seat right. My issue is a little different, it's fine when off, but with the beer line attached it leaks, no matter how I mess with it. Need to disassemble it.

Maybe it is time to replace the o-ring on the post. Or try a different QD.

A poppet, thanks didn't know what that was called. I pushed down on it to try to get it to re-seat, but it still leaks. Slowly, but it leaks. I would hook it up, but I have another keg on tap and only have a single tap. If I can't get it to seal, I'll replace it. Thanks for the advice.
