Default how much sugar?? quick help please. easy for a pro

hi guys. i have about 20 - 21 l of irish stout. its a coopers kit thats sitting in the glass secondry for a month so im transferring back into the primary to bottle. im putting dextrose in the primary that will mix as i rack it.it was supposed to be 23 l but its a bit short. its my first time not adding carbon droops to bottles.
is 5 ounces the right amount for 23l? so should about 4.5 ounces of pure dextrose be grand?
dissolve in cup of water, cool and add to empty primary. rack into primary then bottle using spiggot on primary

how does that sound.
any thing to be aware of or any advice.
thanks as always

There is a handy calculator at http://www.tastybrew.com/calculators/priming.html. If you are between 20 and 21 Liters, that's 5.28-5.55 gallons. A dry stout should be 1.6-2.0 volumes of CO2. At 15*C (59*F), you should add 1.86oz of dextrose for appropriate carbonation. Sweet and oatmeal stouts are higher, around 3.1oz for 2.2vols and foreign extra stouts are even higher at 3.8oz for roughly 2.5vols. Adding the 4.5oz will result in a CO2 level of nearly 2.7 volumes - which could be interesting, if you're looking for a "sparkling dry stout".
