When storing flip top bottles, does it matter if the caps on or off? If you leave them on when not in use does it wear the seal out? I just started using these instead of the 12oz Bottles. I love them...

I take the bails right off my bottles, the gaskets will dry out and you don't want them drying out under pressure - they deform to the shape of the bottle and won't seal afterwards (in my experience anyway). I also tend to replace the gaskets every 4 brews but I'm not sure that it's necessary, it's just what I do.

Thanks. I also wasn't sure about replacement of the gaskets. I figured they last alittle while.

They probably do, but I'm really nuts about keeping my bottles in top shape. I also use 500ML PET 'long neck' bottles and I only re-use the caps 3 times on those. The caps and gaskets are so cheap I don't see the point in pushing my luck.
