i am confused on this subject, does cold crashing clear your beer, make it taste better, i am looking to start doing cold crashing but need a quick explanation on this subject.

Both.

Cold crashing drops the yeast out of suspension clarifying it which also improves the taste to a small degree.

i have a portor in the secondary for about 3 days now, how long would i cold crash it and could i do it in a sink with ice cubes in it, or do i have to have a separate refrigerator , also after it is cold crashed would i bottle/keg it right away

usually cold crashing is done in a secondary (not always) and is 1-3 days long. That would be a lot of ice
