Well I'm picking up an old fridge form a pal this weekend that I'm gonna use for my beer. I figure it should hold three kegs & a CO2 tank. But I think I remember reading somewhere that keeping your CO2 tank chilled will effect the carbonation. Any truth to this?

The tank gauge will just show a lower pressure if it is chilled, but it won't effect the carbonation.

I keep my tank out of the fridge just so I can keep more cold kegs and crash cooling fermenters in there. Used to keep it inside (till I bought 10 more kegs)

You know I love this site. I just setup my kegging equipment and my tank is in the fridge. This morning I am freaking out because it appeared that half my co2 vanished over night. So I sign on this morning and the 3 post I look at is about my exact problem.

I assumed that temp was to blame, I kept the valve shut over night so I didn't see how the gas would have escaped.

Yeah, the temp is to blame. I fill mine and the meter is typically around 1000, and by the time I chill it, it is down to around 600.

That said, I think I'm going to drill a hole and put it outside, merely for the space I'll gain.

Me, too. I have a ten-pound tank, so it's a little bit too bit to fit in the door. With the tank in there, I can fit four cornies; with it out, five.

I'm thinking I'd prefer to go that route myself. Is there any how-to thats been posted around here? I don't imagine it will be that hard but I wouldn't mind hearing from someone who's done it already just in case there is anything to watch out for.

The advice that I've heard is to drill the exterior metal, then start poking around and looking for any coolant lines that might be in the way before proceeding. I need to put my hands on some grommets that will be the right size for the airline, as well, so that things will seal up pretty tightly again.

The place where I get mine filled chills the tank prior to filling. I have to drop it off in the morning and pick it up after work.

He says you get more gas that way.

Someone else on this site concurred with that story.
