Default CO2 Bottle size and force carbonating

I am getting ready to jump into kegging and have some questions. A fruiend told me that a 5# co2 tank won't be enough to force carb (to 30 psi) a corny keg and then pressurize it for serving. Is that accurate?

Anyone have a rough guideline of how many kegs a 5# or 10# tank will last for force carbonating?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Your fruiend is wrong.

I can force carb, clean lines, and serve 4 kegs before my 5 lb. tank empties.

a 5# tank is enough to forcecarbonate and serve 5-7 kegs of beer

other variables come into play such as carbonation level, and amount of CO2 used in purging, and pushing cleaner through your lines, but not by much.

a conservative measurement is 1# of CO2 to carb and serve 1x 5gal corny keg.
