Have 5 vials of WLP001 from LHBS sale...$1 a piece. I'm wanting to make a cider. Anyone ever use this yeast for a cider? What were your results?
How did this go? I have some 001 washed and in mason jars, thinking about using some for ciders!
Ale yeasts yield nice ciders IME, especially if you plan to cold crash, bottle condition, and then pasteurize. If you are going for higher ABV (above 9.5%) and plan to take it all the way dry, then a wine yeast is more appropriate IMO.
001 is a very clean fermenter, adding very little to the flavor/aroma. Are they on sale because they expired?
