Default tannins- how much?

I have one cider that is a little on the bland side (11 months old). A friend said that I should add tannins to perk it up. It is just a small 3 gallon batch. How much should I add?

I use powdered tannin, and I'd start with 1/8 tsp or so. It's powerful stuff, and I've never had excess settle out, so my experience is different than the other poster's.
