Default storage of cider

I live in michigan and like most people here I have an old michigan celler that is humid and smelly. I am new to cider making and I am worried about it making the cider go bad is there anything I can do to ensure this will not happen?

as long as the temp is within the range you need for the yeast and you use an airlock then it'll be no problem. Just don't open the container you're using for fermentation while it's in the cellar.
