Well my cider has been it primary for almost 24 hours and nothing is going on. the water in my airlock is pushed to one side but isn't bubling.
I used
5 gallons 100% apple jucie
2 lb. Brown sugar
Nottingham yeast

my temp is ~70
the only thing i could think i did was shocked the yeast when i put it in water

any ideas

Assuming the yeast wasn't out of date and the apple juice didn't contain preservatives I'd give it more time. after 36 hours just give the cider a good stir with a sterilized spoon, put the airlock back on and wait. Still no action after 48 hours? My first reaction would be to pitch more yeast - a dried sachet straight in.

I just did 4 batches, a pair of 5 gallon and a pair of 4 gallon carboys at once.

3 different yeasts, including 2 seperate wine yeasts and a ale yeast. Not one was bubbling at 24hrs in various 60 to 70 F Temperatures.

Somewhere between 36 and 42hrs was the sweet spot. all were going w/ various yeasts at that point.

All were dry yeasts and I didnt use a starter. Just rehydrated the yeast.
Hope that helps.
