Default my first custom cider recipe... sort of

I combined elements of EW Apfelwein and Cheesfood Mapfelwein
5 gal Tree Top %100 apple juice
1 lb dextrose
1 lb dark brown sugar
24 oz maple syrup
1 Lalvin EC-1118 yeast
2 tsp yeast nutrient

I plan to primary 8 weeks and bottle carb 8 weeks

I guess I'm just looking for some positive feedback on my recipe
did I do good?

The 1118 will dry it out a bit, but the brown sugar will give it a maple flavor.

I made a batch 5 lbs AJ, 2 lbs honey, 2 lbs corn sugar and 2 lbs dark brown sugar. It has a nice maply flavor. Yours should also.

I have a hard time calling something a cider if it doesn't have any body.

Try DME instead of sugar and use a beer yeast IMO.

You could always add malto dextrine prior to bottling...

I did a Maple Cider and used some white wine raisins to give it a little body. I would save the 1118 for a mead and go with an ale yeast or something that won't dry it out so much...

Isn't "regular" hard cider just apple juice/cider and yeast? Why do you need DME to call it "cider"?

I agree with you JLem, but I have yet to try adding DME, so I will hold off judgment until I do
