Default Strawberry Cabana Not Starting???

I threw together a 5 gal. batch of Strawberry Canana early yesterday morning using Lavlin 71b-1122 yeast (about 8 grams). The yeast was redhydtared per directions for about 25 mins. and pitched into room temp must. I am using the graduated method for nutrients. This yeast is supposed to be fast starting but after more than 24 hours there are no signs of anything. It is in a 15 gal "mini brew" unit.

Wassup??

define "no signs of anything". You might have an air leak and cannot see bubbles. Did you take a SG reading? Give it a good swirl and see if it foams...

I assume you used 3 packets of yeast?

What kind of strawberries?

How much head space is in those mini-brew units? (it might take a while to fill it up with C02)

No signs of foaming, fermenting, gas moving the vodkain the air lock or other activity on the surface.

Strawberries were frozen but thawed and mushy. With the berries in the 5 gal. of fluid rise to the 9 gal mark (of 15). Quite a bit of head sapce left but if you push down on the lid slightly the fluid in the lock moves so any gas created should move the fluid in the air lock somewhat.

I used 1.5 packets of yeast. I used 1.5 in a ginger mead that went crazy in less than 24 hours. The recipe did not state how mmany grams to use and the yeast pkg stated enough for 5 gals of fluid so I threw in the additional 1/2 pkg left over.

Read the sticky yet about how fermentation can take up to 72 hours to show any visible signs of activity?

We have lift off! Must be filling the large head space because it is not even slightly moving the vodka in the airlock yet. I know there isn't a leak. The rubber seal works great. I opened it up and the fermentation is vigorous. I guess a little more time and we should be good.
