Default sherry-like Melomel

My first attempt at melomel tastes like sherry

it is: 16.4%abv, six months old.

I personally really like sherry and am delighted with the result, however a more experienced mead maker I know has commented that the taste is not one he would have expected at all.

Is this a common issue with melomel?

Recipe for 5.5 gal was approx: 22 pounds wildflower honey, juice and zest of two lemons, limes, oranges, and about 18oz of pure blueberry juice.
There was also yeast nutrient and lalvin 1118 yeast

I would expect it to taste like sherry if it had been exposed to oxygen, probably not otherwise.

+1 on that. It suggests that it's had a chance to start oxidising.....

so I have it kegged and carbed now, with all that C02 in there, will the oxidization drop out at some point?

Are you sure it's an oxidized taste and not just a flavor from all the different fruit you used?

If it is - any idea where all the Air came from? It would have to have come from something in your proces....

But... If it's oxidized, then nope... It's already oxidized.... The blanket of CO2 will keep it from further oxidizing, though....

Thanks
